Port Elizabeth Chapter

Connie Meier
Connie Meier completed the second year of her 4-year Diploma course for R/N in 1990 and due to sickness did not complete the course but was able to qualify as Enrolled Nurse directly hereafter.
Early in 2003, Connie grabbed an opportunity to take up nursing again and during the first year realized her love for wound care. When requested, she accepted the challenge to work with R/N Karin Gerber, previous Chair Person of the WHASA PE Chapter, and Dr I Punt (previously the Vascular Surgeon at Life St Georges Hospital) to establish a Wound Clinic within the hospital. This wound clinic continues to function under its own cost center within the hospital. Connie recently realized her dream by opening her own wound clinic called “Wound Chefs”. With the help of her sister, who offered her practice number to join in partnership with Connie, they started Wound Chefs in Newton Park Port Elizabeth. This Wound Clinic is a two clinic room facility of which one is yet to be implemented for use – the latter may be sooner than what they anticipated. Connie was voted as Chair Person for the WHASA PE Committee when Karin Gerber stepped down earlier this year. Connie and her sister Colette are committed to meet the wound care needs of the community within the greater part of PE as they manage wounds in their Clinic and at the homes of their patients – the latter being a much needed service in PE.
